Focus On Mental Health, US Gymnast Simone Biles Withdraws From Tokyo Olympics All-around Finals

JAKARTA - Defending champion Simone Biles has withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympics individual gymnastics all-around final due to ongoing concerns over her mental health.

"Following further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympics women's individual all-around final to focus on her mental health," USA Gymnastics confirmed the decision.

The US gymnastics federation said a decision on whether Biles would compete in the individual events final would be made after a daily evaluation.

"Simone will continue to be evaluated on a daily basis to determine whether or not to participate in next week's individual finals," USAG added.

Jade Carey will replace Biles in this all-around final.

"We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and commend her courage in prioritizing her health," USAG said. "Once again his courage shows why he is a role model for so many people."

Biles' decision to withdraw from the all-around came after he withdrew from the women's team final on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old superstar was abruptly dropped from the competition after missing one rotation citing mental health issues.
