Tight Competition, Lifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah Is Only Targeted To Pass The Top 8 In The 73 Kg Class

JAKARTA - It is confirmed that Indonesian lifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah has no chance of winning a weightlifting medal at the Tokyo Olympics today after entering Group B in the 73 kg class.

In his debut at the Olympics, Rahmat was only targeted to be in the top eight in the 73 kg class.

"Rahmat's physical condition is quite prime to perform. And Rahmat is only targeted to enter the top eight," said his coach and father, Erwin Abdullah in a press release by the Indonesian Olympic Committee, Wednesday, as reported by Antara.

Erwin Abdullah's target was not without reason. Apart from being Rahmat's first appearance in the Olympics, he said, the 73 kg class was also very tight.

From the list of lifters issued, Rahmat is in category B with a total lift of 320 kg. The young man who was born on October 13, 2000 will compete with Jorge Alan from Mexico and Mohammed S Halhumayo from Saudi Arabia who have the best total force of 323 kg (143 kg snatch and 180 kg clean and jerk).

In addition, there are also Moroccan lifters Abderrahim Moum and Brandon Dean from Australia whose total force is under Rahmat.

Meanwhile, the competition in Group A is much tougher. There were nine tough lifters whose total lifts ranged from 330 kg to 355 kg, including world champion from China Shi Zhiyong who had the best total lift of 363 kg (169 kg snatch and 194 kg clean and jerk).
