Not Yet Fighting In The Tokyo Olympics, Lifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah Was Awarded With IDR 10 Million, A Motorbike And A House

JAKARTA - Indonesian lifter from South Sulawesi, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, was given prizes from various parties ahead of appearing in the 73 kg weightlifting class at the Tokyo Olympics, Wednesday.

Chairman of the South Sulawesi KONI, Ellong Tjandra, in Makassar, Tuesday, said that Bosowa Insurance awarded a prize of Rp. 10 million, the Regional Banking Consultative Body (BMPD) of South Sulawesi gave a motorcycle and another prize in the form of a house unit from Bank Sulselbar.

"This is a form of appreciation for these three institutions for the spirit and as an encouragement for Erwin who will compete tomorrow," said Ellong, launching Antara, Tuesday, July 27.

The prize for Rahmat Erwin Abdullah himself, was initiated by the Chairman of the South Sulawesi KONI Ellong Tjandra to a number of sponsors, as part of the efforts of the South Sulawesi KONI to appreciate its athletes who have qualified to compete at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

According to him, this is proof that the South Sulawesi KONI does not remain silent towards its athletes who have made their achievements so far, so that the names of Indonesia and South Sulawesi in particular are proud.

Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, became one of five weightlifters competing in the Tokyo Olympics which will take place from July 23 to August 8 next.

This Makassar-born athlete, was able to qualify and win an Olympic ticket through a difficult road.

Based on IWF data in April 2021, Rahmat is ranked 22, while only 13 lifters in each class can qualify for Tokyo. The 13 lifters consist of eight lifters entering the ranks of the world's top eight, and the other five lifters representing each continent or continent.

Despite being outside of the top eight, Rahmat managed to improve his ranking from 22 to 11.

This comes after the IWF gave him the opportunity to improve his rankings by taking part in the 2020 World Junior Championships in Tashkent last May. This championship is the final qualification for the weightlifting branch.
