Jokowi At The Indonesian Chancellor's Forum Conference: Today's Great Knowledge May Not Be Needed In The Next 10 Years
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo views the current science, although great, may not be applied again in the next few years.
He conveyed this in a virtual conference of the Indonesian Chancellor's Forum which was attended by rectors and leaders of universities throughout Indonesia.
From this point of view, Jokowi emphasized that the knowledge and skills of students in Indonesia should not face the future.
"Great knowledge and skills today may no longer be needed in the next 5 or 10 years. Students must be prepared to master relevant knowledge and skills for their time," Jokowi said as uploaded on the Presidential Secretariat Youtube, Tuesday, 27 July.
Therefore, he asked higher education institutions to work for humanity and the progress of the nation, solving social problems with science and technology, with continuous innovation.
"Students must be facilitated to be able to compete in an increasingly open and globalized job market, must be able to become industrialists who create jobs, be able to improve their social status, make themselves move up in class and make Indonesian MSMEs also take classes together," said Jokowi
Jokowi is aware that the target he imposes on this university is quite heavy. However, it will be easier if the campus is willing to do it in a new way, namely in the Merdeka Learning program.
Jokowi said, Merdeka Learning is one of the important instruments. Students can learn from anyone and anywhere that is deemed important to prepare for their future and the future of the nation. "Give students the opportunity to develop their talents. Students in the same department do not necessarily have to learn about the same thing entirely. Students in the same department does not mean that later you have to work in the same profession," he said.
"Every student has their own talents and these talents must be explored, facilitated and developed. That is the essence of the independent campus program and the Freedom of Learning," he continued.
