Police Investigate Hoax Eyes Of COVID-19 Bodies In Jember Disappear, Which Makes Residents Damage Ambulance

JEMBER - Video footage of residents destroying ambulance cars and seizing bodies is scattered. This incident occurred in Sukmoilang Hamlet, Silo, Jember, East Java.

In the 3-minute 53-second video, residents can be seen blocking and destroying the ambulance. The ambulance was pelted and beaten by a number of people who had gathered.

Head of Pace Village, Muhammad Farohan, said that the residents' anger was triggered by hoax information. Because some say the eye organs of the corpse are missing.

"In short, the body was taken to the funeral home, when we arrived at the funeral home, the body was taken down because the family wanted to see it one last time," he told reporters, Tuesday, July 27.

The request was granted by the District Leadership Conference (Muspika) and the Bina Sehat Hospital. However, after the coffin was opened, blood was found and the family was shocked.

"Well, this is the situation whether there are provocateurs, or there are people who like to slander, loudly saying that the eye corpse is not there," he said.

The information shocked and provoked residents. They got emotional without any clarification and then damaged the ambulance.

Farohan said, after being examined together, the condition of the intact body was not as narrated which sparked the anger of the residents.

"But in reality, we need to clarify. The body of the deceased is intact. Two intact eyeballs, intact body, no incision marks. That's the real fact," he explained.

Jember Police is currently investigating this case. The police also ensured that the physical condition of the body was intact, not as narrated in the video.

"We are still conducting an investigation regarding the hoax narration of bodies that were taken from their organs," said Jember Police Chief AKBP Arif Rachman Arifin.
