JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari said his party was working on Indonesia being able to host various qualifying championships for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In smoothing the mission, the man who is familiarly called Okto said he continued to expand his network and strengthen relations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and leaders of international sports federations while he accompanied Indonesian athletes to compete in the Tokyo Olympics.

“As Chair of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, I will maximize my time in Tokyo to network overseas. Because the presidents of international federations, IOC, OCA, ANOC, including all NOC presidents around the world", Okto said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 27.

These efforts yielded positive results. According to Okto, the President of the International Surfing Association (ISA) Fernando Aguerre allowed Indonesia to host an international tournament as well as the qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

For this trust, KOI will communicate with the Executive Board of the Indonesian Wave Surfing Association (PB PSOI).

“We will communicate with PB PSOI as the right holder to hold a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics. Moreover, surfing is confirmed to be an official sport until the 2032 Olympics. The hope is of course that we are not only the hosts but can get more athletes to the Paris Olympics", he said.

In addition, Okto will also continue to communicate with ANOC to discuss the possibility of holding a world championship in the country. This is important to do in order to increase the number of athletes competing in Paris 2024.
