Revealed, UI Chancellor Ari Kuncoro Hasn't Officially Resigned As Commissioner Of BRI: The Decision Is 45 Days Ahead
JAKARTA - The management of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk. (BRI) finally opened its voice regarding the resignation of the company's deputy commissioner, Ari Kuncoro.
In the press conference of the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) which was held virtual, BRI President Director Sunarso confirmed the resignation made by the official who also serves as Chancellor of the University of Indonesia (UI).
However, Sunarso could not confirm whether the resignation was acceptable or not. The reason is that the mechanism for releasing positions in State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) must go through a number of administrative stages.
"What is clear is that we have received the resignation letter (Ari Kuncoro) from the Ministry of SOEs today. So, his resignation letter was addressed to the Minister of SOEs. Then the Minister of SOEs wrote to BRI to follow up administratively in accordance with the provisions," he said, Thursday, July 22.
As for the EGMS which was held today, Sunarso emphasized that the agenda of the meeting did not discuss the issue of Ari Kuncoro's resignation. This happens because the General Meeting of Shareholders' material cannot be changed in a short time, which is only a few days. For this reason, the BRI boss said that if the EGMS agenda remained on the company's rights issue plan.
"Because according to the provisions according to the procedure, it is not possible to change the agenda of the GMS in a matter of days. It will take at least 45 days. So there is only one agenda in this meeting, namely approving the plan to issue additional capital through pre-emptive rights,” he said.
As previously reported, Ari Kuncoro has submitted his resignation from the position of Deputy President Commissioner of BRI. This information was revealed through BRI's letter addressed to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) today, Thursday, July 22.
In the letter which was also uploaded on the IDX's information disclosure page, it was explained that the Ministry of SOEs had received Ari Kuncoro's resignation letter from his position as deputy president commissioner/independent commissioner of the company as of July 21, 221.
To note, the situation faced by Air Kuncoro is the aftermath of the polemic of his dual position. As the number one person at UI, Ari should not have double duty as a high-ranking official in a state-owned company.
This rule refers to Article 35 letter c of Government Regulation (PP) Number 68 of 2013 concerning the UI Statute which reads that the Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor are prohibited from concurrently serving as officials in state/regional or private-owned enterprises.
