KPK's Denial Of Novel Examining Nurhadi Outside The Office

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has denied that the former Secretary of the Supreme Court (MA) Nurhadi was questioned not in accordance with the applicable mechanism. Acting KPK spokesman for prosecution Ali Fikri emphasized that all investigative activities are in accordance with the applicable mechanisms and regulations.

"The NHD suspect (Nurhadi) has remained at the KPK detention center and has never brought him for examination outside the KPK's Red and White House," Ali said as quoted from his written statement, Monday, June 8.

Ali said that the KPK is committed to resolving the allegations of bribery and gratuity that ensnared the former Supreme Court official. Including the development of the case.

Moreover, if this is strengthened by witness statements and sufficient evidence to determine Nurhadi as a suspect in the crime of money laundering.

Ali's denial answers the accusation from the Chairperson of the Indonesian Police Watch Presidium, Neta S Pane. He claimed to have received information, KPK investigator Novel Baswedan took Nurhadi and examined him outside the KPK building.

According to Neta, if this is true, then Novel has acted arbitrarily and violated the law. So, he asked the KPK Supervisory Board to continue to supervise Novel's work in handling the case.

"Novel's non-promoter working methods must be immediately stopped by the KPK Supervisory Board and the KPK leadership led by Komjen Firli Bahuri," said Neta in a written statement.

He added that Novel deliberately took Nurhadi away to be examined elsewhere with the aim of obtaining two confessions.

"The first admission is whether Nurhadi played a big role in winning Budi Gunawan's pretrial at the South Jakarta District Court during his case with the KPK led by Abraham Samad," said Neta.

Second, continued Neta, Novel deliberately did this because he wanted to get the name of the party who protected Nurhadi during his escape.

"The effort to seek confession by taking hostages and examining Nurhadi outside the Red and White House looks very strange, especially about helping Budi Gunawan win the pretrial," he explained.

"How could Nurhadi help others to win the pretrial, he couldn't even help himself. It was proven that his pretrial was rejected by the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court, so Nurhadi became a KPK fugitive for four months," added Neta.

In addition, Neta considered Novel not worthy of being a KPK investigator. The reason is that the investigator who used to be from the police is a suspect in the murder case at the Bengkulu Regional Police.

So, Neta felt that it was not right for a suspect like Novel to then investigate Nurhadi. "Strangely, the KPK Supervisory Board does not have the guts to monitor him. As a result, the suspect continues to examine suspects and the efforts to eradicate corruption at the KPK are very strange," he concluded.
