Ironically, Jeff Bezos Admits Amazon Employees And Customers Paid For His Space Tour Mission
JAKARTA - After a successful space tour, Jeff Bezos thanked Amazon employees and customers for paying for his mission.
The Amazon founder and former CEO has faced constant criticism for amassing the world's greatest fortune, while his company's employees complain that they earn low wages with a poor work system.
At the press conference after the launch, Bezos thanked his employees for helping him raise enough money so he could launch his own mission into space on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket. The rocket was designed to serve the growing space tourism market.
"I want to thank every Amazon employee, and every Amazon customer, because you paid for all of this. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart," Bezos said as quoted by The Independent, Wednesday, July 21.
He also thanked the city of Van Horn, in west Texas, where Blue Origin has become his home, as well as the team members who helped send him into space.
Reported earlier, Bezos flew on the first crewed flight of his rocket, New Shepard on Tuesday, July 20 yesterday. He was accompanied by Mark Bezos, his brother, Wally Funk, an 82-year-old space pioneer of the space race, and Oliver Daemen, an 18-year-old Dutch student.
The spacecraft, which will be commercialized in the near future, offers stunning views of Earth. The four passengers have now returned to land safely on Earth after 11 minutes of their journey.
