Depok Karutan Arrested By West Jakarta Police, Allegedly Involved In Drug Cases

JAKART - Head of the Correctional Division of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) West Java Regional Office, Taufiqurahman, confirmed that the Head of the Depok Class I Detention Center (Karutan) was arrested by the police suspected of being involved in a drug case.

Taufiq said that the Depok Karutan named Anton was arrested by the West Jakarta Metro Police at the end of June 2021.

"It is true, there is a connection with the development of the West Jakarta Police," he said when contacted in Bandung, West Java, as reported by Antara, Sunday, July 18.

According to him, currently Karutan Depok is still under investigation at the West Jakarta Metro Police. He emphasized that his party fully handed over the legal case to the police.

Regarding his status, he said that Karutan Depok is currently being proposed for a temporary suspension until there is a clear spot on his legal status.

He said that currently the position of Karutan Depok was filled by daily implementing officials (Plh). Correctional guidance at the Depok Detention Center is still running as usual.

"It's still the principle of presumption of innocence, it's still being developed by the police," he said.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights would not hinder law enforcement officials if any Ministry of Law and Human Rights officers were caught in a legal case.

"Yes, it doesn't matter, (including Karutan) if it is proven, yes, if it is proven based on the examination by the West Jakarta Police, then if there is no action, it will definitely be prosecuted," he said.
