6 Indonesian Representatives Confirmed To Carry Badminton Tickets For The 2020 Olympics

JAKARTA - The World Badminton Federation (BWF) recently issued new provisions regarding the qualifications for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This step was taken as a fair solution in the qualification system.

One of the new provisions is that all points that athletes have earned from tournaments that have been completed during the Olympic qualifying period (until All England 2020) will still be included in Race to Tokyo points.

That means, there are six Indonesian representatives who are confirmed to win tickets to the Olympics which are planned to be held July 23 - August 8, 2021. The reason is, the Indonesian badminton players have earned points that meet the criteria to qualify for the Olympics.

Who are they? The following is a list of six Indonesian representatives who have been confirmed to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics:

Jonatan Christie

Jonatan Christie is currently in seventh place in the BWF ranking with 74,590 points. Mathematically, the Race to Tokyo Jojo points ensure that the Indonesian men's singles remain in the top 16 and are not overtaken by other competitors.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting

This Indonesian men's singles occupies the sixth position with 78,332 points. Otomotis Anthony Ginting also has the right to appear in Tokyo because his Race to Tokyo points are enough to put him in the top 16.

Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo / Marcus Fernaldi Gideon

Indonesia's flagship men's doubles ranks first in the BWF ranking. So far, Kevin Sanjaya / Marcus Gideon have collected 106,853 points. More than enough points to win a ticket to the Olympics.

Hendra Setiawan / Mohammad Ahsan

Indonesia is confirmed to send two representatives in the men's doubles. In addition to Kevin Sanjaya / Marcus Gideon, there is also an aging couple Hendra Setiawan / Mohammad Ahsan.

The double, dubbed The Daddies, is in second place in the BWF ranking with 97,557 points. Mathematically, they are certain to penetrate the 2020 Olympics.

Praveen Jordan / Melati Daeva Oktavianti

The 2020 All England champion is the ticket for Praveen Jordan / Melati Daeva Oktavianto to the Tokyo Olympics. They are certain to remain in the top eight. Currently, Praveen / Melati is in fourth place on the BWF ranking with a collection of 80,247 points.

Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu

They are the only representatives of Indonesia in women's doubles. The Race to Tokyo Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu points were enough to win them the Olympic ticket.

Currently the pair is in eighth place on the BWF ranking with 72,105 points.
