Meet With The Chairman Of The KPK, Menkopolhukam To Discuss Law Enforcement

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD met with the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri. During the meeting, discussed several matters, the main one related to law enforcement.

"I discussed several things that are still needed to be done in the law enforcement process," Mahfud said in a video statement, Wednesday, June 3.

However, Mahfud dismissed this discussion as a form of government intervention in law enforcement. Especially with regard to legal cases handled by the KPK.

"What can the government help with the KPK in law enforcement measures without having the government intervene in its pro yustisia," said Mahfud.

Apart from meeting Firli, Mahfud also invited the Head of BIN Budi Gunawan and the Chief of Staff of the Army (KASAD) General Andika Perkasa. With them, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) discussed the state defense situation.

He did this because on Thursday, June 4 tomorrow, Mahfud will conduct a visit to the outer regions of Indonesia that border other countries.

Previously, Mahfud had praised the anti-graft agency for successfully arresting their fugitive, the former Secretary of the Supreme Court (MA) Nurhadi. According to him, the arrest was proof that the KPK was working seriously.

"I am happy and salute to the KPK. That proves that the KPK has been working seriously in taking care of Nurhadi," said Mahfud.

He said he had two records regarding this arrest. First, said Mahfud, the KPK had proven the wrong opinion that Nurhadi was protected by strong people in this country. Second, he continued, the KPK has proven that they are capable of working without having to 'scream' first.

"Pak Firli once told me, 'let people say we are not good but we will still try to work well'," said Mahfud imitating Firli's statement.

As previously reported, the former Secretary of the Supreme Court (MA) Nurhadi and his son-in-law Riezky Herbiyono ended up at a house in the Simprug area, South Jakarta.

The two fugitives in the alleged receipt of bribes and gratuities worth Rp46 billion had to end their escape after being arrested by the KPK investigative team led by Novel Baswedan.
