Roc Nation And Jay-Z Rent A Newspaper Page In Honor Of George Floyd

JAKARTA - Jay-Z and his record label, Roc Nation, rent a full page in several US newspapers to offer condolences to George Floyd who was killed in Minneapolis last week.

Yesterday, June 2, Jay-Z with Floyd's family and colleagues as well as a number of organizations and activists turned a page in the New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, and The Philadelphia Enquirer newspapers against a black background.

Roc Nation is home to a number of musicians including Rihanna, Meek Mill, J. Cole, Alicia Keys, Jay Park, and many others.

In the advertisement posted, they quote Dr. Marthin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, Alabama in 1965. Then, they added a message after the quote.

“A man died when he refused to stand up for what was right. One man died when he refused to defend for justice. A man died when he refused to stand up for what was right. So we will stand in the middle of the horse. We'll stand here, in the middle of the billy-clubs. We'll be standing here in the middle of police dogs, if they have one. We will stand in the middle of tear gas! "

At the conclusion, more than 20 alliances signed up for the advertisement including Jay-Z, Van Jones Reform Alliance and The Women's Global Initiative. Some of the parents of previous discrimination victims, such as Botham Jean, DJ Henry, and Antwon Rose II, also signed their signatures. Their black children were victims of police injustice before George Floyd.

This step was taken after they did Blackout Tuesday where on Tuesday there was no day for entertainment other than self-reflection. A number of musicians and singers such as Ariana Grande, Halsey, Yungblud, Harry Styles, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Lauren Jauregui and others were seen protesting in their respective cities to demand justice for George Floyd.
