Strengthening 320 Points, Rupiah Almost Back To IDR 13,000
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market was able to strengthen significantly on Wednesday, June 3 trading. The rupiah was able to close up 2.22 percent or 320 points to IDR 14,095 per United States dollar (US).
Binaartha Sekuritas analyst, M. Nafan Aji Gustama said, the market appreciates the reopening or re-opening of the economy gradually, both domestically and in countries globally.
"The new normal condition scenario has a positive psychological impact for market players to be more optimistic," Nafan told VOI.
This afternoon, currencies in Asia were mixed against the US dollar. The rupiah remains the most powerful in the region, followed by the South Korean won (0.70 percent) and the Philippine peso (0.48 percent).
Then the Malaysian ringgit strengthened 0.22 percent, the Singapore dollar (0.16 percent) and the Hong Kong dollar (0.01 percent).
Meanwhile, currencies in Asia that weakened against the US dollar were the Thai baht (0.17 percent), the Indian rupee (0.15 percent), the Chinese yuan (0.12 percent) and the Japanese yen (0.08 percent).
