Before Extending, Government Will Evaluate Emergency PPKM
JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Jodi Mahardi said the government would evaluate the Implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) before it was extended.
"We are still waiting for the Emergency PPKM which is still valid until July 20. Before that day, we will evaluate whether the Emergency PPKM will be extended or not," Jodi told reporters, Wednesday, July 14.
Furthermore, he said his party had also carried out an evaluation of the implementation of Emergency PPKM in Java-Bali. The latest data compiled by his party per July 11-12 showed a decrease in the mobility of residents.
However, there are still recorded a number of areas experiencing increased mobility, such as in the North Coast (Pantura) West Java and Central Java Provinces.
"We hope that in the next few days, there will be an increase in the number of areas whose mobility declines from minus 20 to minus 30 percent," said Jodi.
Meanwhile, mobility in the DKI Jakarta area has decreased by 21.3 percent, West Java by 9 percent, and Banten by 18.1 percent.
"Mr. Coordinating Minister asked the National Police Chief for each Regional Police Chief and his staff to continue to block mobility not only on Ring 1 roads but also to Ring 2, as well as patrol residential areas to ensure compliance with the procedures," he explained.
Previously reported, the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani had raised the discourse of extending the Emergency PPKM.
He said the emergency PPKM had to be effective. If the spread of COVID-19 is still high, it is possible for the government to extend the Emergency PPKM for up to 6 weeks.
"Emergency PPKM for 4-6 weeks is carried out to contain the spread of COVID-19 cases. Community mobility is expected to decrease significantly," Sri Mulyani said in a joint working meeting with the DPR's Budget Agency, Monday, July 12.
