Legitimate! Eid Al-Adha Falls On July 20, 2021: Eid Prayers Are Canceled, Sacrifices Are Carried Out For Three Days

JAKARTA – The government through the Ministry of Religion announced that this year's Eid will fall on July 20, 2021. This decision is based on the stipulation of 1 Dzulhijjah 1442 Hijri which falls on Sunday, July 11, 2020.

"The height of the new moon in all parts of Indonesia is above the horizon between 2 degrees 21 minutes to 4 degrees 14 minutes. Based on this position, 1 Dzulhijjah 1442 is set to fall on Sunday, July 11, 2021 and of course Eid al-Adha will fall on Tuesday, July 20, 2021," said Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in a press conference held virtually, Saturday, July 10.

The Minister of Religion added that related to the determination of the Emergency PPKM, the Ministry of Religion has issued two circulars (SE) at once. First SE Minister of Religion No. 16 of 2021 concerning Technical Guidelines for the Implementation of the Takbiran Night and the Implementation of the Sacrifice in 2021.

Second, the Minister of Religion Decree No. 17 of 2021 concerning the Temporary Elimination of Worship in Places of Worship, Takbiran Nights, Eid Prayers, and Technical Guidelines for the Implementation of the 2021 Sacrifice in the area of the Emergency PPKM implementation

"The temporary elimination of worship in the Emergency PPKM area is absolute to be able to help overcome the current pandemic," he said.

Meanwhile, worship outside the Emergency PPKM and the orange zone can be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Minister of Religion Decree No. 16 of 2021.

Meanwhile, the slaughter of sacrificial animals can be carried out for three days from 11 to 13 Dzulhijjah with a focus on the slaughterhouse.

"If the slaughterhouse has limitations, it can be done elsewhere by referring to the SE Minister of Religion No. 17 of 2021," he said.

In detail, the Minister of Religion said that the implementation of the sacrifice must be carried out in a large area so that it is possible to carry out social distancing. Then, the sacrificial slaughter is only attended by officers and witnessed by the sacrificer.

Then, the sacrificial meat is delivered to the party who is entitled to receive it to avoid the crowds of crowds.

"Of course, the application of health protocols and equipment must be strictly observed to avoid transmission of the pandemic," concluded the Minister of Religion.
