Colombia Reaches Third Place In Copa America After 3-2 Win Over Peru

JAKARTA - Colombia won third place in the 2021 Copa America after a dramatic 3-2 win over Peru at the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha, Brasilia, on Saturday morning.

Colombia immediately took the initiative to control the ball from the start of the match. Meanwhile, Peru played defensively while occasionally launching counter-attacks.

The game has only been running for six minutes, Peru almost opened the scoring. However, Yoshimar Yotun's left foot shot still bounced high over the Colombian crossbar.

Four minutes later, it was Colombia's turn to threaten Peru's goal. However, Oscar Murillo's header after welcoming Juan Cuadrado's pass was still slightly deviated from the desired target.

In the 28th minute, Peru again got a golden opportunity to open the scoring. Unfortunately, Gianluca Lapadula's brilliant flick after receiving Christian Gueva's breakthrough bait still deviated to the right of the Colombian goal.

Eleven minutes later, Peru had threatened the Colombian goal through Sergio Pena's right foot kick. However, the ball was still sideways thin to the right of Camilo Vargasa's convoy goal.

Peru's awaited goal finally materialized at the end of the first half or 45 minutes. Yoshimar Yotun successfully brought Peru ahead after Camilo Vargas couldn't stop his left foot shot.

Until the referee blew the long whistle marking the end of the first half, no more goals were created. Peru successfully secured a 1-0 advantage over Colombia until the first half ended.

After the break, Colombia further increased the intensity of their attacks. Meanwhile, Peru continued to appear aggressive as in the first half.

Colombia's efforts to equalize finally paid off when the game entered the 49th minute. Through a free kick situation, Juan Cuadrado successfully created the first goal for Colombia and made the score 1-1.

Colombia turned ahead in the 66th minute through a quick counter-attack. Starting from a long pass sent by goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, Luis Diaz who greeted him managed to maximize by scoring the second goal for Colombia.

Peru refused to give up and continued to try to create an equalizer. They also managed to get a number of opportunities, but none have yielded sweet results.

Only in the 82nd minute, Peru managed to make the score back to a draw. Receiving a measured pass from Raziel Garcia, the big Gianluca Lapadula managed to direct the ball into the Colombian goal and scored a goal with a hard header.

When the match seemed to be undergoing extra time, Colombia was able to score a goal in the second half of injury time.

In the remaining time, Peru remained determined to find additional goals. However, until the referee blew the long whistle signaling the end of the match, nothing else was created.

Colombia managed to lock in a dramatic 3-2 victory over Peru and was entitled to a third-place title in the 2021 Copa America.
