Explore The World Film Festival At We Are One: Global Film Festival

JAKARTA - We Are One: Global Film Festival is a platform on YouTube that broadcasts free films at film festivals around the world. This program will air from Friday, 29 May to 7 June.

What is present here is not just any film, but films that have passed the curation of a large-scale festival such as Tribeca, Berlin, or Cannes. Because this year a number of festivals were canceled, they decided to unite to create a global film festival.

"You have musicians, comedians, and chefs who come together to make an activity but during times when we feel isolated, and we're looking for something to watch, I think of the idea of bringing all the festivals, the great curators, together," said Jane Rosenthal, CEO of Tribeca was quoted by the BBC.

Apart from providing entertainment to the public, free screening of films also provides an opportunity for the public to explore the films made by the creators. In this case, YouTube intervened by adding a “donation” button on each page of the film for those who want to donate against COVID-19.

Like film festivals in general, We Are One also broadcasts question and answer sessions with people who work in the film industry, including Jackie Chan, Tessa Thompson, Laura Dern, Zhang Ziyi and many others.

In the future, it is hoped that this festival will arouse people's love for film by participating in We Are One. "There will be surprises, whether the director speaks, musical surprises, we try to give as much spontaneity as we can through the virtual screen," continued Rosenthal.

Various films, both feature films and short films, will be shown throughout 10 days. DreamWorks Animation Studios' short films such as Bilby and Bird Karma will open today.

Eeb Allay Ooo, an exclusively curated film from the Mumbai Film Festival that will also air exclusively, tells the story of an immigrant who is hired to drive animals out of a New Delhi government building.

For those of you who like analyzing film questions, the Jaws session with Tierzoo might be interesting to watch. In this session, the audience will study together about the characters in the film Jaws that make this film interesting.

Or for those of you who want stories from the Asian continent, there is Mary is Happy, Mary is Happy owned by director Nawapol Thamrongrattanar which premiered digitally because it is not available on any streaming service. This film tells the fantasy story of a teenager who writes it through his Twitter account. Check schedule and line up for We Are One: Global Film Festival here.
