Police Arrest Woman Fugitive In Case Of Theft In Hospital Hypnosis Mode
JAKARTA - The South Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit has arrested a woman who has been on the run for two months for stealing with the mode of hypnotizing the victim. The perpetrator acted at the hospital in the Pasar Minggu area.
"Armed with CCTV footage and public information, we were finally able to identify the perpetrators," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for the South Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Achmad Akbar, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 8.
The police arrested the suspect with the initials AI in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 6 along with his biological son with the initials DS, who is also a suspect for being a collector of the stolen goods.
The suspect committed the theft for economic reasons. Even so, the police are still investigating whether the suspect's involvement in the theft case is the first time or if it has been repeated.
Regarding the alleged victim being hypnotized, during the examination the Police did not recognize the term because of the abstract evidence.
"From the aspect of the examination, there may not be a term hypnosis because the evidence is also abstract, but what the victim feels may have happened," he said.
The incident began when the victim, Isnawati Wijaya, at that time checked herself into a hospital in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on May 4, 2021.
At that time, the suspect AI met the victim and admitted that he knew the victim's late husband who was a journalist on a national private television.
The suspect followed the victim to the hospital, without inviting any suspicion from the victim.
"Whatever he asked me to do, I did. Last time (he) wanted to take my bag, he told me to go to the midday prayer. When (I) went to the prayer room, I left," said Isnawati when she was present at the South Jakarta Metro Police.
Then, the perpetrator and the victim's bag which contained two cell phones and Rp6 million in cash disappeared, bringing the total loss to the victim to Rp12.5 million.
Even though the money was used to support the cost of treatment at the hospital because the victim was later diagnosed with dengue fever and underwent treatment.
Currently, the police have detained the two perpetrators for further investigation. The two perpetrators were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code which carries a sentence of seven years in prison.
