MSMEs Empowered In The Production Of 3 Layers Of Masks At Surabaya City Hall
SURABAYA - A number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were involved in making a large number of three-layer masks at the Surabaya City Hall, East Java.
"Actually, so far, MSME actors have made around 7,000 masks in their respective places. However, in order to optimize the manufacture again, we asked to work at the Surabaya City Hall," said Head of the Surabaya City Trade Office Wiwiek Widayati while monitoring the manufacture of masks at City Hall. Surabaya quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 7th.
According to him, the making of the masks involved 10 tailors and 2 cloth cutters. They come from SMEs assisted by the Surabaya City Government.
Wiwiek also explained that the policy for making masks by empowering MSMEs was indeed the order of the Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi, so that MSMEs are expected to continue to move and they will also participate in stemming the spread of COVID-19 with these masks.
"So, a lot of work is being done to empower MSMEs, starting from making masks, making PPE (personal protective equipment), and also making vests for volunteers," he said.
Wiwiek also ensured that the masks made at the Surabaya City Hall would make three-layer masks, so it was a little bit appropriate to ward off the virus. In the past, usually only two layers were used and then medical masks were added, so now they are making three layers.
"As for the target, yesterday we made 7 thousand, hopefully in the near future we can also make 7 thousand masks at the Surabaya City Hall," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the MSME representatives from MSME Arsyadina Mita Arsyadina, expressed his gratitude to the Surabaya City Government because during a pandemic like this one is still empowered, so MSMEs can still move.
"This time, we are working as a team to make three-layer masks as requested by the city government," he said.
Mita also explained that he and other MSMEs would work on one roll of cloth with a size of 60 yards, which would later become about 500 masks with three layers. Coupled with one roll of cloth measuring 30 yards which will later become about 300 masks with three layers.
"In the beginning, there will probably be 800 masks with three layers, and the ingredients will continue to be added until the target for making masks is met," he said.
