YouTube Now Can Remind Users Not To Stay Up Late
JAKARTA - The YouTube video sharing platform has features that can help its users not to stay up late at night. This new feature is called 'bedtime reminders' which reminds users to take a break while watching video content on YouTube.
Reporting from Tech Radar, this YouTube-style preventive feature is a continuation of the wellness and screen time features that have been around since 2018. Embedding this feature is also part of the Google Digital Wellbeing initiative.
"You set the start and end times in your Settings, including whether you want the notification to interrupt the video or wait for the video to finish," Google said in a blog post, Friday, May 29.
In fact, the presence of this feature aims to help users reduce the duration of watching videos. YouTube realizes that this problem has increased since the surge in the use of both cellphones and computers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This situation also has an impact on the new normality as more and more time is spent staring at the device screen. Moreover, there are many employees or students who have to work from home.
Technically, the bedtime reminders feature can be set to interrupt video shows that are being watched at a certain time. Not only that, this feature can also be dismissed or postponed (snooze) after a notification on YouTube has been set.
"You set the start and end times in your Settings, including whether you want the notification to interrupt the video or wait for the video to finish," explains Google.
YouTube says this feature is available on Android and iOS applications. Launching the official Google blog, here's how to activate the Youtube Bedtime Reminder feature:
-Log in (Sign In) to your Youtube account.
-Open Settings (Settings).
-Click the 'Remind Me When It's Time for Bed' section.
-Define the start and end times for the reminder.
-Select 'Wait until I finish the video to bring up a reminder' (Wait until I Finish My Video to Show Reminder) if you want a reminder notification to appear after the video you are watching is finished.
