Hotels And Guesthouses In Makassar Threatened To Roll The Floor Due To PPKM

MAKASSAR - Hotels and guesthouses in Makassar, South Sulawesi, are in danger of going out of business as a result of the implementation of restrictions on micro community activities (PPKM) which reduces occupancy rates.

"The PPKM policy in Makassar City has affected almost all sectors, including the hotel and homestead industry," said the owner of Wisma 45, Alimuddin in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 6.

He said, at the beginning of the implementation of PPKM at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was already a loss with a decrease in the occupancy of the homestead up to B-70 percent.

When the adaptation of new habits or the new normal was implemented, he continued, he was greeted with joy because there had been improvements little by little with the enthusiasm of the lodging business again.

Moreover, after Eid Al-Fitr 1442 Hijri, the economy, including the service sector, began to improve, but the implementation of micro PPKM again resulted in the occupancy rate declining again.

The same thing was stated by Marcom Hotel Best Western Plus Makassar Beach, Moh Arif Romadhoni. He said that the businessmen of the homestead or hotel had actually fallen, but they were still trying to survive by relying on bank credit.

According to him, the current illness experienced by hotels and guesthouses is because they use bank money to manage businesses in the service sector. The PPKM condition also affects the reduction of human resources and is forced to be laid off.

Including reducing operational costs to reduce the company's burden.

This condition was confirmed by the Head of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of South Sulawesi, Anggiat Sinaga, who previously had an audience with Makassar Mayor Ramadhan Pomanto.

The chairman of the PHRI in South Sulawesi requested that government policies not make the service sector worse off. The reason is that the service sector such as hotels and restaurants is an economic driver that involves a lot of labor.
