Achilles Tendon Surgery Goes Well, Spinazzola: The Countdown Has Started

JAKARTA - Italian national team left-back Leonardo Spinazzola underwent surgery on Monday to treat an Achilles tendon injury he suffered after missing the remainder of Euro 2020.

He suffered the injury in the Italian national team's victory in the quarter-final match over Belgium, Saturday, July 3.

"The operation went perfectly. I want to thank everyone who supported me. The countdown has started," Spinazzola wrote on Instagram along with a photo of him lying in hospital.

Launching Antara, the 28-year-old player underwent surgery performed by specialist doctors in Finland. He is expected to be out for about the next six months.

Serie A club AS Roma's new boss Jose Mourinho on Sunday lamented Spinazzola's injury and admitted he was missing out on a long-term absence.

Meanwhile, defender Leonardo Bonucci said Italy were aiming to reach this year's European Championship final for the sake of his team-mate, who has suffered an Achilles tendon injury.

Furthermore, in the semifinals of Euro 2020, the Azzurri will face Spain at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday local time.
