JAKARTA - The 2021 Cannes Film Festival takes place from today July 6 to July 17. In Indonesia, some of the nominated films can be watched on Klik Film.
The five films participating in the Cannes Film Festival that can be watched on Klik Film are, Flag Day (Sean Penn - USA), A Hero (Asghar Farhadi - Iran), Petrov's Flu (Kirill Serebrennikov - Russia), Nitram (Justin Kurzel - Australia), and Aline : The Voice Of Love (Valerie Lemercier - France). Here's the synopsis.
Flag Day
This film about a father who lives a double life as a forger, bank robber and con artist to support his daughter, is directed by Oscar-winning actor Sean Pean. In addition, Sean also brought his daughter, Dylan Penn. This film is an adaptation of Jennifer Vogel's famous memoir "Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father's Fake Life,
Aline : The Voice Of Love
This is a French film inspired by the life of Céline Dion. French actor, singer, filmmaker Valérie Lemercier directs and also stars as the protagonist, whose life trajectory looks like that of Dion and her late husband René Angélil. In contrast, the main character is named Aline Dieu and her manager-turned-husband is named Guy-Claude.
Nitram
Justin Kurzel's selection of "Nitram" for the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival is guaranteed to create a stir in Australia.
Written by Shaun Grant, the film is based on the infamous Port Arthur Massacre of 1996 in Tasmania, in which 35 people were killed and 23 injured. The retelling of Kurzel is understood to avoid depicting the murder directly and to avoid using the killer's name. His disguise, however, was deliberately thin. "Nitram" is the reverse spelling of Martin Bryant from the Port Arthur assassins.
On the one hand, "Nitram" will be celebrated as the first Australian film in the prestigious major for six years. On the other hand, placing the film on a pedestal risks reopening the wounds caused by the mass murders it describes but is not fully covered.
Petrov's Flu
It is the second film by director Kirill Serebrennikov to enter the Cannes Film Festival after Leto. Although set before the pandemic, Oetrov's Flu, an adaptation of Alexey Salnikov's 2018 novel “The Petrovs In and Around the Flu” certainly has new resonance as it captures life in post-Soviet Russia, particularly in a city in the throes of the flu epidemic.
Described as a flat and hallucinatory romp, the film follows the Petrov family as they struggle through another day in a country where the past never passes, the present a dream of violence and tenderness filled with booze. The film features a cast of Semyon Serzin, Chulpan Khamatova, Yulia Peresild, Yura Borisov, and Yuri Kolokolnikov,
A Hero
It is a film written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, and stars Amir Jadidi and Mohsen Tanabandeh. In June 2021, the film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
