Foreign Workers Can Enter During Emergency PPKM, PKS: Don't Let The Government Only 'Lip Service'

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives from the PKS faction, Netty Prasetiyani Aher, questioned the entry of 20 citizens (WN) from China to Indonesia amid the policy of the Imposition of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Java and Bali.

According to him, Emergency PPKM does not guarantee the cessation of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, if the implementation of the policy is half-hearted.

"The government must be firm in preventing the entry of foreign workers who are suspected of being a source of transmission. Do not let the public judge the government as just lip service in the COVID-19 control policy!," said Netty to reporters, Tuesday, July 6.

The chairman of the PKS DPP is worried that the Emergency PPKM may not be effective. Because there is jealousy in society.

"This will raise public questions, why are Chinese citizens privileged in the Emergency PPKM? Is it under the pretext of a national strategic project that this is allowed to happen?" asked Netty.

Netty assessed that PPKM will be effective if there is consistency in policies handling COVID-9 which leads to a decrease in the rate of the number of people affected by the deadly virus. areas that are subject to regulations or not," he said. Citing IDI, continued Netty, one of the reasons for the spike in cases in Indonesia was the presence of a new variant of the virus with a stronger spread that came from abroad. This virus, he explained, is not enough to fight by simply showing vaccine certification and negative PCR test results before departure.

Therefore, said Netty, tests should also be carried out at every country entrance and airport. "There is no guarantee that during the trip there will be no transmission. Shouldn't it be better if the entrance of foreign workers to Indonesia is closed to prevent the spread of a new variant of the virus?," said the West Java legislator.

Netty added that Taiwan and Hong Kong set Indonesia as a country with a high risk of COVID-19 transmission, such as India. In fact, Japan and Saudi Arabia are also known to have tightened entry permits for migrants from Indonesia. "For the safety of the people and the dignity of the nation, the government should do the same for migrants from countries at risk and endemic to the new variant of COVID-19," said Netty.
