Enraged Because He Was Reprimanded For Not Wearing A Mask, This Police Officer Was Transferred

JAKARTA - Circulating videos on social media show angry police officers who did not accept being reminded to wear masks by other police on duty. It is fitting that the position of this individual police officer be removed because of tarnishing the institution of the Police.

The police officer is known to have the rank of Chief Brigadier (Bripka) with the initials HI. The incident took place at the PSBB post, Ciparay District, Bandung Regency, on Monday, May 25.

Commissioner of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Poengky Indarti said that the appropriate punishment for this police officer was indeed dismissal from his post. Previously, Bripka HI served in the Bandung Police Traffic Unit.

In addition, sanctions and disciplinary violations must also be given to Bripka HI. However, this must wait for the results of the ethics trial and examination.

"There will definitely be ethical and disciplinary sanctions. It depends on the results of the examination. So besides being removed, there are other penalties," Poengky told VOI, Wednesday, May 27.

The layered sanctions were given, said Poengky, because Bripka HI had tarnished the National Police institution as the front guard against the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, this action could potentially spread the virus to other communities.

The police in preventing the spread of COVID-19 are tasked with cracking down on violators of government regulations. In carrying out their duties, police officers must prioritize health protocols because they interact with the public in the public space.

"This action is really disgraceful because it shows arrogance and disobedience to the law," said Poengky.

Removal of office

Head of Public Relations of the National Police, Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan, said that Bripka HI had finished being examined by the Provos of the West Java Regional Police and decided to transfer his assignment to the Headquarters Service Unit (Yanma).

"The West Java Regional Police Chief has firmly sanctioned these unscrupulous members of the National Police with a demotion transfer on May 25, 2020 from the Bandung Police to become a member of the West Java Regional Police Yanma in the context of examination," said Ahmad.

In addition, said Ahmad, Inspector General Rudy Sufahriadi also apologized to the community because Bripka HI's actions did not reflect a good role model for society.

"The West Java Police Chief has apologized to the public because these police officers did not provide good examples and role models for society," Ahmad concluded.
