Death Rate Rises, Now Tangerang City Government Prepares Burial Ground For COVID-19 Patients

TANGERANG - The Tangerang City Government, Banten, has prepared an additional 2.8 hectares of land in the Kedaung Wetan Neglasari area for the burial location of the bodies of COVID-19 patients. This is done because the land in Selapajang TPU is increasingly limited.

Tangerang Mayor Arief R Wismansyah in Tangerang, Monday, said that the Housing and Settlement Service will prepare the addition of the cemetery area.

"We make sure that access to and from the location can be passed by four-wheeled vehicles. So that hearses can be easily transported to the burial site," said Mayor Arief in his official statement after visiting the location in the Kedawung Wetan Village area, Neglasari, quoted by Antara, Monday, July 5th.

Arief explained that the addition of the burial location was taken after the limited land for bodies buried with the COVID-19 protocol which is currently concentrated at the Selapajang TPU.

"In Selapajang TPU, there are only 3,000 square meters left of the total area of 11.5 hectares," he said.

With limited burial grounds, the Mayor continued, in the future the Tangerang City Government will prioritize corpses with the COVID-19 protocol to be buried at the Selapajang TPU.

"As for the bodies with the COVID-19 protocol, first until the new land is ready to be used," he said.

Mayor Arief also appealed to all the people of Tangerang City to continue to comply with health protocols, because currently the pandemic is still being hit.

"We know that COVID-19 cases in Indonesia are still increasing, including in Tangerang City, the death rate also continues to increase. For that I urge the public to remain disciplined in implementing health protocols and reduce mobility or travel," he said.
