Rental House Managers Could Be A Trigger For The Second Wave Of COVID-19

JAKARTA - The Eid Al-Fitr celebration has passed, but the spread of COVID-19 in the capital seems to show no signs of ending. In fact, it is predicted that the second wave will occur because the travelers return to Jakarta.

The return of the travelers to the capital city for various reasons, one of which is work. However, the problem is that there are people living in Jakarta who live in rented or rented houses and boarding houses.

Many of them were not registered by the RT or RW as residents during the COVID-19 epidemic. So, when they return from their hometowns, they can increase the potential for spreading the virus.

Public Policy Analysis Trubus Rahadiansyah said that the reason for the occupants of the rental houses was not recorded because there were managers who turned a blind eye. They are more concerned with tenants than the danger of the spread of COVID-19.

In fact, the managers seem to protect the tenants for economic reasons. Moreover, during a pandemic like now money seems to be very important than health.

"Many managers protect tenants in times of trouble like this, who are all money," Trubus told VOI, Wednesday, May 28.

According to Trubus, the percentage rate of house tenants who will return to Jakarta is quite high. For that, several efforts to prevent this from happening must be done. One of them is the coordination between the DKI Provincial Government (Pemprov) and the City / Regional Government (Pemkot / Pemda).

The form of coordination in question is that the home government of the travelers, either at the RT or District level, does not give permission to them. Thus, travelers who do not have a Jakarta ID card cannot return to the capital.

"The provincial government must cooperate with the regional government of origin (travelers) not to issue permits to travelers," said Trubus.

Then, the provincial government must give strict sanctions to the managers of rental houses who are caught allowing or protecting tenants. So, the manager will not accept the tenants at will without thinking about the spread of COVID-19.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government must also reactivate Yustisi's operations. By doing this, all the tenants of the house will be registered and if they have returned to Jakarta they can take further steps such as quarantine.

"Indeed, we have to carry out the yustisi operation again. So, they can know what to do with the tenants of the house," Trubus said.

Based on Jasa Marga's data, 55,776 vehicles were monitored heading to Jakarta. Tens of thousands of these vehicles travel along roads from the east, west and south.
