Entering Garut City Without Mask, ID Card Will Be Detained

JAKARTA - The Garut COVID-19 Handling Task Force imposed a ban on motorists not wearing masks to enter urban areas during an operation to impose an emergency community activity restriction (PPKM) in Garut Regency, West Java.

Head of the Garut Regency Civil Service Police Unit Bambang Hafid said joint officers consisting of the TNI, Polri, Satpol PP, Garut Transportation Service carried out operations at a number of points to bring order to the public to comply with health protocols, one of which was required to wear masks.

"Those who don't wear masks we stop, we follow up, and are asked to wear masks," said Bambang.

He said one of the places where decisive action was taken. namely at the Simpang Lima isolation post, those who do not wear masks are immediately dismissed for their identity data and given an understanding of the dangers of COVID-19.

Furthermore, he said, those who did not wear masks had to be withheld their identity cards (KTP) until they wanted to take or buy masks and wear them.

"We detained ID cards, but were given guidance and warnings, we asked him to buy masks," he said.

Garut Resort Police Chief AKBP Wirdhanto Hadicaksono said his staff had carried out simulations and socialization related to the holding of emergency PPKM in the context of preventing and breaking the chain of transmission of the COVID-19 outbreak in Garut.

He conveyed that his staff had prepared joint personnel to carry out isolation operations and take action for anyone who violated health protocols.

"This is an effort to tighten community activities," he said.

He conveyed that his staff would also take firm action against business actors who violate the health protocols and rules applied in PPKM.

"The judicial operation is firm for business actors to people who do not comply with this PPKM," he said.
