Exposed To The Delta Variant, Spokesperson For The COVID-19 Task Force Wiku Adisasmito Returns After 13 Days Of Treatment

JAKARTA - The team of doctors at Premier Bintaro Hospital, Tangerang, has allowed the Head of the Expert Team for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, to self-isolate at home. Wiku was previously treated in intensive care due to being exposed to the Delta type of SARS-CoV-2.

"Overall treatment from the Doctor Team at Premier Bintaro Hospital, I have been treated for 13 days, 10 days of intravenous drip, given the best medicine, given good input," he said via video posting on his personal Instagram account @wikuadisasmito, Friday, July 2.

The man, who also serves as Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, expressed his sympathy for hospital health workers who have always consistently adhered to health protocols during the service process for patients.

"Health workers always use personal protective equipment (PPE) because it is risky, especially since I am still positive (COVID-19), the doctor who treats me has not been infected until now. That is a form of health care protection and I hope the community will be more disciplined so they don't get infected," he said, quoted by Antara.

After almost a year of participating in the direct control of COVID-19, said Wiku, he never imagined that he would be a part of one of the survivors of COVID-19.

"But everything happened for a reason, blessings in disguise," he wrote in the caption on the video upload.

During the treatment period, Wiku gets more rest time which is very rare when compared to when he is healthy. In addition, this phase also makes Wiku closer to his family and listens to advice to rest so he can get healthy quickly.

Even though he is in the process of being treated, Wiku tries to keep doing the work he can do, both virtual meetings with the Task Force Expert Team and answering media questions.

"After 13 days I was hospitalized after being positive for COVID-19, today I have been allowed by the team of doctors to return home to continue self-isolation," he said.

Wiku felt that his condition had improved greatly. "I thank the team of doctors and health workers who have treated me very well and carefully," he said.

Wiku hopes that his condition, including after being diagnosed with the Delta variant virus, can provide lessons for the community.

"Efforts to prevent COVID-19 are not compartmentalized, it is more effective if health protocols and vaccinations are carried out in harmony," he said.

During the self-isolation period at home, Wiku will resume activities virtually to provide updates related to other relevant issues to media partners.

"I also want to thank my media colleagues who have supported me during my recovery," he said.
