18 Victims Of The KMP Yunicee Sinking Still Wanted

JEMBRANA - The Indonesian Navy is still reviewing the location where the wreck of the KMP Yunicee was found at a depth of 78 meters using KRI Rigel-933.

It was confirmed that KMP Yunicee, which sank in Gilimanuk, Bali, would not move. The position of the ship is still the same.

The Commander of KRI Rigel-933 Marine Lieutenant Colonel (P) Jaenal Mutakim, explained that this operation was directly directed to the location of KMP Yunicee for backscatter data collection and multibeam echo sounder bathymetry.

"This data is needed to display 3D results of the condition of the subject being sought, namely KMP Yunicee," said Mutakim, Friday, July 2.

The obstacle faced when carrying out the search for KMP Yunicee was strong ocean currents. Sea currents from north to south speed 11-12 knots.

"Meanwhile, on the other hand, if you walk from the south to the north you can travel at a speed of 0.6 to 2.0 knots," he added.

"The results of the updated data collected from agency partners who have collaborated with relevant stakeholders, the recorded number is 76 Personnel On Board (POB), then 58 people have been found. Possibly there are still 18 people who are still in the search process," he said.

Meanwhile, Kadishub Banyuwangi Regency, Drs. Dwi Yanto said the position of KMP Yunicee has not shifted.

"The Banyuwangi Transportation Service will carry out systemic improvements to the standardization of minimum services, checking how the condition of the age of the ship and the ship's maintenance process during use so as to reduce unwanted things and in the future can support the safety of crossings for ship passengers," he said.
