1 July OPM Anniversary, Papuan Police Chief: Until 10.30 WIT No Prominent Report
JAKARTA - Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri stated that currently the security and security situation is safe and there are no reports of the celebration of the independence day of the Papuan independence organization (OPM).
"Until 10.30 WIT there were no prominent reports, including the celebration of the OPM Anniversary," said Inspector General Pol Fakhiri to Antara, in Jayapura, Thursday, July 1.
The Kapolda hopes that the community will not be influenced by the issues that are deliberately blown by irresponsible groups related to the OPM Anniversary commemoration activities.
"During my time on duty in Papua since 2001 there have never been any prominent reports of disturbances in public order and security," said Fakhiri, adding that some of the images or photos circulating were allegedly edited.
"Don't be easy to believe in the issues that the group has deliberately blown and the TNI-Polri will try to provide a sense of security to the community," said Inspector General Pol Fakhiri.
When asked about the situation along the RI-PNG border, the Papuan Police Chief emphasized that things in various regions in Papua have been conducive so far.
"What is certain is that until now the security and security situation is relatively safe and there have been no reports of warnings for the OPM Anniversary," said the Papuan Regional Commander.
OPM is one of the organizations that seeks to separate Papua from the Republic of Indonesia, and every 1 July is commemorated as the OPM Anniversary.
