Facebook Launches Bulletin, Promises Writers And Journalists Get Money
Facebook Inc. launched a product in the form of a standalone platform called Bulletin on Tuesday, June 29. As the name suggests, Bulletin provides article and podcast content that can be accessed for free or paid.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced this new platform live via Bulletin.com. On this occasion, Mark also introduced several writers who have been recruited by the company and will become content creators in the Bulletin.
Through the Bulletin, Facebook has officially entered the e-mail news competition which has grown quite rapidly over the past few years. Especially at a time when many well-known journalists have started to leave media companies as they are today.
Today, Substack is still the market leader. The platform helps multiple authors connect with a large number of readers in the form of email subscriptions. Not only that, Substack also provides compensation in the form of cash to every registered journalist.
Other companies that have joined the competition in this new industry such as Twitter, which recently bought Revue.
Liaison Between Writer and ReaderQuoting the FAQ page of the Bulletin site, it is stated that this new platform aims to allow content creators to find audiences without being completely dependent on the Facebook platform.
In fact, according to Mark's explanation, users do not need to create a Facebook account if they want to share content on the Bulletin. However, many Bulletin infrastructures still depend on Facebook.
"This includes using Facebook Pay to purchase premium subscriptions as well as joining customer groups and live chat rooms," the Bulletin wrote on its FAQ page.
The company also said that all content on the Bulletin will also be available on the Facebook News Feed. More specifications, in the Facebook News section.
Unfortunately, for the time being the Bulletin is only available in the United States and only works with creators from that country. The company has not accepted collaborations with other creators.
However, this condition only lasts during the beta test period. The company also promises that the Bulletin will be available globally soon.
