KPK Prisoners' New Normal Gathering: Video Conference

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) ensures that the detainees still have their right to stay in touch with their families on Eid Al-Fitr. It's just that, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, prisoners and their families will only stay in touch through the online system.

"Due to avoiding the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, the visiting service will still use an online visit system," said Acting KPK spokesman Ali Fikri in his written statement, Friday, May 22.

This online visit service will be held on the 1st and 2nd of Shawwal 1441 Hijriah or on Sunday, 24 May and Monday, 25 May starting from 08.00 WIB to 13.00 WIB.

In doing so, each detainee will get time to talk with his family to stay in touch for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, for the Eid Al-Fitr prayer, he said, it would be adjusted to the rules of each remand center.

During the Eid al-Fitr celebration, on 1 Shawwal or Sunday, May 24, families can fill boxes of food and clothes for detainees from 08.00 WIB to 09.30 WIB. Meanwhile on the next date, there will be no more large boxes added.

"For food delivery using a small box (for each prisoner) and an additional large box per detention center," he said, adding that the prisoners will also get time to eat together on the 1st of Shawwal.

Previously reported, since last March, this anti-graft agency has closed visits of prisoners' families and legal advisers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, detainees may still be visited via video conference facilities according to the schedule of visits, namely every Monday and Thursday starting from 10.00 WIB to 12.00 WIB.
