Jayakarta Mosque In Pulogadung Burns, Witness Calls Fire Emerging From Imam's Place
JAKARTA - The Jayakarta Mosque at PT JIEP, Pulogadung Industrial Estate, East Jakarta, caught fire.
Head of Operations for the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept. Gatot Sulaeman said the cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical short circuit.
"The cause is suspected to be an electrical short at the priest's place," said Gatot Sulaeman, when confirmed at Antara, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 30.
Gatot Sulaeman explained that initially there was a janitor who saw a fire coming from the priest's place.
Gatot said the janitor then reported the incident to the mosque administrator.
"He reported it to the mosque administrator and when the mosque administrator arrived at the location, the fire had already grown," said Gatot Sulaeman.
He said the process of extinguishing the fire involved as many as seven fire engines with a total of 35 personnel. The extinguishing was completed at 11.06 WIB after officers struggled for about an hour to extinguish the fire.
There were no casualties in the fire incident. However, the material loss is estimated at Rp 500 million.
