PKB Legislator Values BEM UI's Criticism Of Jokowi No Need To Be Dragged Into The Legal Field, Alludes To The Attitude Of Chief Of Police Sigit

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR RI, Heru Widodo, assessed that criticism of President Jokowi in the form of a meme that reads 'The King of Lip Service' uploaded to the Twitter account @BEMUI_Official, should not be brought to justice.

The reason is that criticism is part of the expression of opinion that has been regulated in democracy. "Don't get involved in the legal field," said Heru to reporters, Wednesday, June 30.

It is known, netizens are busy discussing the issue of the status of BEM UI which criticizes the Jokowi government.

This status now has a long tail, from internal UI to reports to the police from the Marhaen Banteng Gardu (GBM) which considered it to be hate speech material.

The PKB politician then alluded to the statement by the National Police Chief Gen. Lityo Sigit Prabowo regarding the case in Indonesia. Not everything has to go into the realm of law.

“The National Police Chief often reminds them, don't make small reports and violate the law, that there are still many other important cases that must be resolved. One example of a foreigner sentenced to death is being repealed. This needs to be studied," said Heru.

Heru reminded all parties to see the full and urgency of the case. He assessed that student evaluation of the government is part of the struggle for democracy in Indonesia.

"I don't want this issue to go into the realm of law, yes, but if there is a complaint, I suggest the police to see the urgency of this issue," said the general chairman of the DPN for the one nation student movement (Gemasaba).

It should be underlined and reminded again, said Heru, that students are one of the pillars of building and guarding democracy in Indonesia.

"We should not ignore the strategic role of students, that students are guardians of democracy and reform is the real role of students," said Heru.
