Edhy Prabowo Sueded For 5 Years In Prison, ICW: Same As Kades Who Corruption Of IDR 399 Million

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) assesses that the demands of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against former Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo are too low and are an insult to justice.

"This has really insulted the sense of justice. Why not, the demands are the same as the demands of a village head in Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau who was proven guilty of corruption amounting to Rp. 399 million at the end of 2017," said ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana to reporters, Thursday, June 30. .

Instead of demanding 5 years in prison, the prosecutor should be able to demand that the former Gerindra Party politician be sentenced to life in prison. Moreover, the article used is Article 12 A of the Anti-Corruption Law.

Thus, ICW urges the panel of judges to ignore the demands for imprisonment and fines submitted by the public prosecutor. Kurnia said, the judge should have sentenced Edhy Prabowo to a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

"This is also natural, apart from Edhy's position as a public official, he also practices corruption in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

Furthermore, he said, the low demands against Edhy also showed that the KPK under the leadership of Firli Bahuri seemed reluctant to act harshly on party politicians. Moreover, before Edhy, the KPK had also lightly prosecuted the former chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Romahurmuziy with a sentence of 4 years in prison.

Kurnia also believes that this low-level prosecution practice will occur again in the trial of the COVID-19 social assistance bribery case that ensnared former Social Minister Juliari Peter Batubara.

"In the future, ICW believes that this practice will continue to be repeated and will most likely be seen again in the social assistance case involving Juliari P Batubara," said Kurnia.

Previously reported, former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo was sentenced to 5 years in prison. In addition to imprisonment, he is also required to be fined Rp. 400 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

In addition, the prosecutor decided that Edhy Prabowo legally and convincingly committed a criminal act of corruption. This is in accordance with the indictment of Article 12 letter a of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 1 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
