KPU Has Doubts About 2014 Voter Data Information Hacked By Hackers

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) will immediately investigate the alleged leakage of millions of population data that were included in the final voter list (DPT) in the 2014 elections. Moreover, these data are now published in a hacker forum.

RI KPU commissioner Viryan Aziz said, since last night, his party has conducted internal checks on the security of the KPU data server. He also coordinated with several parties regarding the alleged data leakage.

Even so, Viryan did not want to simply believe the accuracy of election voter data which was said to be leaked on social media, before the internal check was completed.

"(The alleged leaked data) is just the claim concerned. Moreover, the number of DPT in the 2014 election is not up to 200 million, but 190 million," said Viryan when confirmed, Friday, May 22.

Moreover, said Viryan, referring to the regulation in Law Number 8 of 2012 concerning General Elections, voter data must be open and accessible to the public. This is done for the sake of promoting transparency in the election administration.

"Soft KPU data files in the" .pdf "format are issued according to regulations. To meet public needs, (DPT) is open in nature," said Viryan.

Nevertheless, the KPU will promise to re-examine the metadata for the 2014 election, after the internal inspection is complete. "Further information will be delivered later," he concluded.

As previously reported, 2.3 million data on citizens and voters belonging to the KPU were allegedly leaked in a hacker community forum. The news was revealed by the social media account @underthebreach on Twitter.

From the sample data he shared, it was seen that a number of information including name, family card number, National Identity Number (NIK), and several other personal data had been hacked by hackers. Most of the leaked information comes from voter data from a number of regions in Yogyakarta.
