61 People Positive For COVID-19 After The Wali Songo Pilgrimage In Banyuwangi

BANYUWANGI - A total of 61 people from a total of 98 residents of Licin District, Banyuwangi, East Java, tested positive for COVID-19, after the Wali Songo pilgrimage. They are now undergoing isolation in the Slippery Training building.

"Out of the 98 tested, 61 were positive. They were immediately quarantined in the Slippery Training building," said Banyuwangi COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson, Widji Lestariono when contacted, Monday, June 28.

Currently, there are three clusters of COVID-91 transmission from the Wali Songo pilgrimage in Banyuwangi. Previously, the Wali Songo pilgrimage cluster was found in Blimbingsari Village/District and Karangbendo Village, Rogojampi District.

According to Rio, the transmission of COVID-19, as Widji Lestariono is known, allegedly occurred in the cities he visited. While on the bus, pilgrims may find it difficult to keep their distance and wear masks properly.

"There are two buses, they are definitely on the bus not keeping their distance and wearing masks, then getting off in cities (which are visited) and interacting with other people," he said.

With the emergence of this cluster, the COVID-19 Task Force asked residents not to make the Wali Songo pilgrimage first.

"With this incident, we ask the sub-district head and convey it to the residents not to travel out of town," he said.

Data from the East Java COVID-19 Task Force, as many as 7,282 residents in Banyuwangi were exposed to COVID-19 as of 27 June. Of that number, 6,091 recovered, 718 died, and 473 active cases.
