John MacAfee's Wife Reveals Husband's Last Message Before Death, Blames US Authorities For This Incident

JAKARTA - Janice McAfee, widow of tech entrepreneur John MacAfee, blamed US authorities for her husband's death in a Spanish prison a few days ago.

She said her husband died not by suicide and asked for an investigation into the cause of her husband's death.

This was revealed by Janice McAfee to the press outside Brians 2 prison in Barcelona as quoted by Reuters via Antara, Saturday, June 26 evening.

Her late husband was detained since October last year. She spoke with her husband several hours before being found dead.

"His last words to me were 'I love you and will call this afternoon'. Those words were not from a suicidal person," said Janice McAfee.

"I blame the US authorities for this tragedy. Due to the politically charged allegations, my husband is now dead," she said.

According to his wife, McAfee intended to appeal to a court in Spain hours before his death. A Spanish court granted McAfee's extradition plan to the United States days earlier.

Representatives for the US Embassy in Spain said they were monitoring the investigation into the case.

"We continue to closely monitor local authorities' investigations into the cause of death and are willing to provide all appropriate assistance to his family. Out of respect for the family at this difficult time, we do not wish to comment further," a spokesman for the US Embassy in Spain said.

McAfee, 75, who is best known for the antivirus products that bear his name, was arrested last October at the airport in Barcelona. He has been living on the run from US authorities for the past few years due to a number of cases.

The state of Tennessee indicted McAfee on tax evasion charges, while New York charged with cryptocurrency fraud.

He was found dead in his cell, according to Spanish prison authorities by hanging himself. McAfee, according to a prison source, was being held with other inmates, however, was alone when he was found dead.

McAfee's attorney, Javier Villalba said the McAfee family was still waiting for the official autopsy results. He will request a second autopsy, independently, at the request of the family. The family will also take legal action once the results of the death are out.
