Not Wanting To Compete With PLN And Telkom, Jasa Marga Turns Out To Be Just A Fiber Optic Infrastructure Business On The Trans Java Toll Road

JAKARTA - PT Jasamarga Related Business (JMRB), as a subsidiary of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, has confirmed that it is not an internet service provider. The company only supports internet providers, namely developing backbone infrastructure for fiber optics along the Trans Java Toll Road as an effort to strengthen its business lines in the development of toll road corridors.

If you become an internet service provider, then Jasa Marga will be a competitor to Telkom with its IndiHome or PLN with its Iconnet. However, Jasa Marga is not like that.

President Director of PT JMRB Cahyo Satrio Prakoso said that PT JMRB seeks to optimize toll road corridors to develop a fiber optic backbone. In this case, PT JMRB does not enter directly into the internet business, but provides backbone infrastructure for fiber optics.

According to him, the business opportunity is motivated by the Trans Java Toll Road concession managed by the Jasa Marga Group, which is 1,167 km long.

"Basically, PT JMRB is not an internet service provider, but rather develops a backbone for fiber optics. Currently, backbone infrastructure in Java is still needed to connect cities on Java Island so that it can facilitate data transfer," said Cahyo in his official statement here. Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, June 25.

This is done as an effort to optimize the benefits of Jasa Marga Group's toll road corridors, especially on the Trans Java Toll Road.

Cahyo added that the market potential for fiber optics is in line with the massive development of technology globally as seen from the growth of online applications and other technologies, as well as the increasing demand for internet networks. In addition, Indonesia will start 5G infrastructure by several cellular operators.

We are currently in the process of reviewing various details related to the development of this fiber optic backbone. We are trying to implement the study process by the end of 2021," explained Cahyo.

According to Cahyo, the backbone development for fiber optics can support and bridge the distribution of fiber optic infrastructure. He said that in the future it is possible for PT JMRB to develop a fiber optic backbone throughout Indonesia, considering that Jasa Marga Group holds the majority of toll road concessions throughout Indonesia.

The strengthening of the digital utility business line is in line with PT JMRB's plan to conduct an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the near future.

In addition to digital utilities, PT JMRB is also intensively conducting studies and development of toll road corridors or Toll Corridor Development (TCD). Nearby, PT JMRB will start the TCD Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) and Jasa Marga Tower projects.
