East Sumba Flood Swept 2 Houses And 230 Residents
JAKARTA - The flood washed away two houses from the residents of Benda Village, Kaliuda Village, Pahunga District, East Sumba. In addition, 44 houses were also inundated by the flood.
Based on reports from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the flood occurred early Wednesday (20/5), at 02.00 WITA. Floods occur due to high rain intensity. So that the Pangulado River overflowed.
The local BPBD reported 230 people displaced at the Kaliuda Village Hall. They are still living in temporary evacuation.
Emergency handling has been carried out by the local government. Through the BPBD of East Sumba Regency, a rapid reaction team (TRC) was dispatched to conduct a rapid assessment.
To avoid casualties, the team also evacuated residents to a safe place. The local government helps affected residents with logistical assistance.
BPBD reports that the condition of the area is still cloudy and has the potential to rain at 14.00 local time. The flood that occurred earlier this morning gradually receded with a water level of about 40 cm.
East Sumba Regency is an area with moderate to high flood potential. Based on InaRISK's analysis, there are 16 sub-districts that have the potential for flooding, with an affected area of around 75 thousand hectares.
Apart from the area affected, public facilities are schools with a total of 63 units with the potential for flooding in the medium category, and 7 others in the high category.
