ICW: The Loss Of Example Of Firli Bahuri Et Al Is The Cause Of Many Complaints Of Alleged Ethical Violations To The KPK Council
JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) considers the widespread allegations of ethical violations committed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) personnel because one of them is the loss of exemplary values from Firli Bahuri et al as leaders.
ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana said this example was lost because KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri had twice violated ethics, starting from meeting with litigants to showing a luxurious lifestyle.
"Not to mention the fact that Lili Pintauli Siregar's ethical examination will likely be proven to have violated the code of ethics because of communicating with the litigants," said Kurnia in a written statement, Friday, June 25.
According to him, the increase in complaints of alleged ethical violations also occurred because the sentence handed down by the KPK Supervisory Board was considered not to have a deterrent effect. "For example, the decision against Firli Bahuri, which should have been subject to a serious violation, was only rewarded with a written warning," he said.
"So, simply put, the supervisory board failed to send a firm message to all KPK personnel," added Kurnia.
As previously reported, the KPK Supervisory Board has received 37 reports of violations of the code of ethics allegedly committed by KPK personnel as of June. This figure increased significantly from the previous year which only recorded 30 reports.
Seeing this condition, member of the KPK Supervisory Board, Albertina Ho, said this increase should be a warning for KPK personnel to be careful in their actions.
"For 2021, which is actually beyond our expectations, there has been an extraordinary increase in ethical complaints. Previously, there were 30 ethical complaints in 2020, for 2021 until June there were 37," Albertina said at a press conference held online on Thursday, June 24.
"This may also be a warning for us fellow commissioners, why is this an ethical complaint that will increase greatly in 2021," he added.
Albertina admitted that she was surprised by the number of reports. Albertina even said that this could happen because the internal KPK code of ethics is still not massively implemented or it could increase because the community continues to monitor the institution.
"Is this because there is a lack of guidance or internalization of the code of ethics or what, really, so there is a sharp increase or it could be that the community is really now using the channels provided by the council," he said.
