PDIP East Java Proposes Puan Maharani For 2024 Presidential Candidate, DPP: The Decision Is In Megawati

JAKARTA - Hundreds of banners and posters of the chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, have appeared in the Lamongan area. Previously, Puan's posters had also been displayed in Surabaya and a number of areas in East Java.

It turned out that the existence of these posters was due to the impact of the East Java PDI-P working meeting which had recommended Puan as a presidential candidate for 2024.

The East Java PDI-P DPD (PDIP) has decided Puan Maharani as a 2024 presidential candidate at the East Java PDIP Regional Work Meeting (Rakerda) in Blitar.

In response to the decision, the Honorary Chair of the PDIP DPP, Komarudin Watubun, stated that the support of the East Java PDIP DPD had no effect on the presidential election decision in 2024.

The reason is, the full decision remains in the hands of the General Chairperson of the PDIP, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"What is the effect, there is no effect, because the final decision rests with the general chairman. The issue of presidential candidates is the general chairman's prerogative," said Komarudin, Thursday, June 24.

However, Komarudin did not question the aspirations of the lower cadres structurally. This is because the support is only a proposal.

Once again, he emphasized that the presidential candidate from the PDIP was Megawati's decision as the holder of the prerogative. Even so, there is massive support from various regions.

"The election is still 3 years away, right. Moreover, we are now facing the problem of Covid, which doesn't know when it will end," said Komarudin.
