Police Arrest 2 Suspected Perpetrators Of Extortion At Padang Orphanage
PADANG - The North Padang Police Sector Team, Padang, West Sumatra (West Sumatra) arrested two perpetrators suspected of making illegal levies (extortion) against an orphanage in Ulak Karang Utara Village, Padang.
"We have arrested the two perpetrators for allegedly committing thuggery and bullying at an orphanage," said Padang City Police Chief Kombes Imran Amir, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 23.
The two perpetrators who were detained at the Padang Utara Police Office were A (39) and AM (47). While the other one is still being searched (DPO).
"We are still developing this case and the perpetrator is undergoing investigation," he said.
Imran Amir said the two were suspected of having burglarized at the Rumah Shelter Orphanage and Thafidz Jasmine Nabila Inayah.
The address is at Jalan Sumatra Number E/7, Ulak Karang Utara Village, North Padang District, Padang City.
From the statement from the head of the orphanage, it is suspected that there was an burglary last Ramadan. The mode is to ask for a "share" of donor assistance received by the orphanage.
The orphanage was forced to provide assistance from donors to the youth in the form of 8 bottles of packaged drinks.
During the fasting month, the young man came to the orphanage three times asking for help.
"Apart from that, there are also some youths who ask for help from the orphanage during the fasting month with the excuse of improving drainage," he said.
The orphanage then refused the request, which resulted in the issuance of threats against the orphanage. The threat reads, "If the orphanage doesn't want to pay, don't blame us if anything happens in this orphanage."
After receiving this information, the police immediately followed up by deploying a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit and the Intelligence and Security Unit of the North Padang Police to take action.
