Perludem: Presidential Discourse 3 Periods Degrading The Dignity Of The Indonesian People

JAKARTA - The Board of Trustees of the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Titi Anggraini assesses that the discourse on extending the presidential term to 3 terms is part of an effort to degrade the dignity of the Indonesian people.

The reason is that this discourse seems to lead to public opinion that only Joko Widodo is the best leader in the archipelago.

"This is an idea that demeans the dignity of the Indonesian people with a cult approach to people who are considered, only that figure can provide good leadership," said Titi in a discussion entitled 'President Jokowi 3 Periods: Imagination or Reality?' online, Wednesday, June 23.

Titi believes that the idea of President Jokowi for this 3rd period will not just stop. Because later, he said, there would be a longer reason for continuing the vision and mission program.

"President Jokowi's 3rd term discourse will facilitate other ideas that will further distance Indonesian politics and elections from an inclusive space," he said.

Titi explained the reason why the ideas of President Jokowi's 3rd Period can be considered as degrading the dignity of the Indonesian people. One of them, about the population of Indonesia which is hundreds of millions, but only 1 or 2 people can become leaders.

"The Indonesian people have a population of more than 270 million, only 190 million voters, nothing has been negated by only 1-2 people who can lead," said Titi.

Second, Indonesia chose a republican system because it believed that the Indonesian nation should provide opportunities for the nation's best cadres.

"Because this degrades the dignity of the Indonesian people. This is also a big threat to our efforts to modernize political parties, namely to strengthen regeneration regeneration," he explained.

In the end, Titi continued, regeneration regeneration by political parties is currently stagnant or running in place.

"So this is the best effort to stagnate or hinder the regeneration of political parties," said Titi.
