JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) has opened the opportunity for the World Superbike (WSBK) motorcycle racing championship at the Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB) to be opened to the public. However, said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, this could happen with a note if the spread of COVID-19 began to be controlled. According to Sandi, until now the government is still preparing the facilities and infrastructure needed so that the event can be carried out properly, so that there is no surge in the COVID-19 wave.

For your information, the process of building a race track at the Mandalika Circuit itself has entered the second layer stage and is projected to be completed in August 2021.

"So we are very ready for World Superbike but of course this is very dependent on the COVID-19 situation and the direction of the Limited Meeting (Ratas) where when the situation allows of course we will adjust the number of spectators who can attend in person," he said in a virtual press conference. , Tuesday, June 22.

Sandiaga said apart from the construction of the race track, the development of other facilities has entered the final stage. Among them is the expansion of the airport which has reached 99 percent for the terminal and runway.

Furthermore, Sandiaga said the construction of all access to the Mandalika Circuit is also being accelerated. Where the current development has reached 70 percent.

"Hopefully the entire construction can be completed soon and the access that our friends at the PUPR Ministry will immediately prepare for has reached 70 percent," he said.

The former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta hopes that in the future the spread of the COVID-19 virus can be handled immediately. So, the event can be attended by the audience directly. According to Sandiaga, the presence of the audience can revive the slumping economy, especially the people in the Mandalika buffer area.

"We hope that the impact on the local economy and the provinces in the surrounding areas can also stretch. And open up job opportunities to improve the people's economy in Mandalika and of course the supporting villages around it," he said.

As is known, based on the schedule released by the World Superbike (WSBK) the 13th series or the closing series of the 2021 season will be held at Circuit Mandalika from 12 to 14 November 2021. Indonesia is also the only series in the Asian region in the 2021 racing season.
