JAKARTA - 5th President Megawati Soekarnoputri invited the public to strengthen mutual cooperation and discipline to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the current rate of transmission of the virus continues to increase.

Megawati admitted that she received information that there was an increase in the number of COVID-19 sufferers in 10 provinces, including Central Java and DKI Jakarta. According to him, this happened because people were not disciplined in enforcing health protocols.

"If I ask you, are you bored, ma'am. Who is not bored? Soekarno in Masohi, Central Maluku virtually as quoted from his written statement, Monday, June 21.

The PDI-P general chairman said he was always disciplined in implementing health protocols. In fact, he has never gone anywhere or been under lockdown at home for the past 1.5 years or since the COVID-19 pandemic occurred.

"I myself was locked down by my children. I can't go anywhere, it's been 1.5 years. That's why the majority of my webinars continue. I actually want to go to Masohi, but what else? It's for the sake of maintaining health," he said

"I am 74.5. Next year 75. When I was vice president, the team of doctors monitored me continuously. But thank God I am healthy and well, please pray for me," added Megawati.

He also remains productive even though he is at home and cannot go to his party's office. Even in a day he can run hundreds of webinars.

"I can still be productive. I have gone through 103 party webinar activities," he said.

Returning to her appeal to the public, Megawati asked all parties to strengthen the sense of humanity by working together. So that there is a real act of sharing in order to lighten the burden of brothers and sisters in need.

"Let's work together to overcome the pandemic and remind each other to be disciplined in implementing health protocols," he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the DPP PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto said his party was continuing to monitor developments due to Covid-19 where the surge in patients was very worrying. His party invites all citizens to work together to overcome this covid-19.

"We put the handling of COVID-19 as a top priority. COVID-19 and its variants cannot be underestimated," said Hasto.

His party has emphasized various party programs such as helping enforce discipline on the use of masks, keeping a distance, washing hands, preventive programs with healthy living and increasing the body's immunity. There is also a program to encourage the movement to grow edible plants, as well as a mutual cooperation program for people affected by Covid-19.

"And the PDI-P DPP office was indeed decided to be partially closed in order to reduce activities. Some work from home," he concluded.
