Lorde's Solar Power Song Called Imitating Freedom '90, This Is George Michael's Response
JAKARTA - Singer Lorde has just released her new song titled Solar Power last week. This song is the main track for their third album which is currently in production.
After its release, many netizens cited similarities between Solar Power and the late George Michael's song Freedom '90 which was released in October 1990.
The similarity can be seen from the instrument used by Solar Power at the end, very much like the song Freedom '90 with the same instrument from the beginning of the song.
Seeing the various responses and accusations of plagiarism directed at Lorde, asset rights holder George Michael gave a statement through the official website and social media.
Michael's party thought they were not bothered by the comparisons made by music listeners.
"We know many people have linked George Michael's 'Freedom '90' with Lorde's 'Solar Power' which George will be impressed with, as fellow artists, we wish (Lorde) success with the song," reads a statement on Friday, June 18 .
"We are aware that many people are making a connection between Freedom '90 by George Michael and Solar Power by @lorde which George would have been flattered to hear, so on behalf of one great artist to another, we wish her every success with the single." - George Michael Estate pic.twitter.com/XuoFUQwXjS
