Minister Of Home Affairs: The Role Of Regional House of Representatives Is Crucial In Handling COVID-19

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian said the role of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is very crucial in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery in the country.

"I see that the role of DPRD is very important in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery. Once again, the role of drafting regulations is crucial. It will serve as a guide for enforcers", said Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, quoted by Antara, Friday, June 18.

The Minister of Home Affairs said that in 2021 there are still many challenges that need to be faced together, especially related to handling the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery.

According to Tito, the DPRD's three functions, namely legislation, budgeting, and supervision, are central in handling the outbreak.

"I appeal to my colleagues as good communicators and good bridges to provide understanding to fellow politicians in the DPRD", he continued.

Being a good communicator, according to Tito, aims to make legislators in the regions really take advantage of the three powers in overcoming the problem of controlling COVID-19 and restoring the economy by seizing opportunities.

The Minister of Home Affairs conveyed that the national problems of the COVID-19 pandemic and its socio-economic impacts needed to be resolved together.

As a legislator, Tito continued, the DPRD, which was elected with legitimacy from the people and represented the interests of the people, made the voices of DPRD members influence the community so they needed to be used to socialize and campaign for health protocols.

"Tell me about how to handle COVID-19. The easiest way to campaign is to wear a mask. This is different when it comes to submitting regional heads with members of the council who are elected by constituents chosen in their respective electoral districts. It will be more powerful”, said the Minister of Home Affairs.
